In 1993, Calvary SLO was born in a living room in downtown San Luis Obispo. Pastor Bryan and his wife planted this church with the hopes of forming a body of believers who desired to transform the culture through the the gospel. San Luis Obispo is located on the central coast of California, halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles and was recently touted as the "Happiest place in America". The city boasts a medium sized population of 45,000 residents and is home of Cal Poly University.
Every year thousands of students come to Cal Poly from all over the globe, with the purpose of earning an education and the hopes of charting a future. It's not unusual for CSLO to grow by hundreds of new people, when school starts up each Fall. CSLO is in a unique position to help influence these students for just a few short years before they themselves go on to start families, launch careers, lead communities, and change the world.
When these students graduate and move on, they go out to either build their own kingdom or live for Jesus’ glory. A sense of urgency comes with this territory, and the future stakes couldn’t be higher.
In spite of the high turnover rate of students, CSLO has grown steadily over the years, as the second largest group in the church is young families. Currently we have 3 services (9am, 11am, 6:30pm) all of which are full, with the possibility of starting a 4th. We feel expansion is necessary to continue to be faithful stewards over all God's blessings.
Expansion Phase 1
As of December 2009 we've been cramped in the 10,000 sq. ft. of the, 16,000 square feet that we rent. The remaining 6,000 squar feet needs funding to get it improved for usage according to city code. We estimate the costs of the first phase of this project (which includes installation of fire sprinklers, fire-rated drywall, permits, various city requirements for exterior repairs, classrooms, etc.) to be around $75k
The first phase of this $75k project will allow us to use the much needed:
- Extra classrooms
- Youth room
- Sunday service overflow space
Stewards over God's Blessings
We feel God's given us this building as a tool to better serve Him and those whom He brings, of which a large portion includes hundreds of college students. God often works through the generosity of His people giving joyfully to His work (2 Corinthians 8:2). We believe God would have us move foward with this much needed expansion, trusting in His provision. If you'd like to contribute to this project, you can do so here (designate: building fund). Thank you!
