Children's Ministry Health & Safety Policy*
*Effective January 2019
- There will always be a roaming CM Supervisor while Children’s Ministry (CM) is in session. This provides security and accountability.
- Each class will have a “Class Leader”. The Class Leader will be a current Sunday CM volunteer or staff member who has completed the application, training and live scan process.
- “Always two policy”. No teacher will be alone with the children.
- Physical activities and affection between teachers and children will be above reproach. For example, no wrestling, carrying or tickling the children. Children in K-5th grade will not sit on teachers’ laps. Normal hugs and holding a child’s hand are acceptable. When carrying toddlers and infants, conduct and affection will be above reproach.
- Only female CM volunteers are permitted to escort children to the bathroom and must wait outside the stall. Only female CM volunteers are permitted to change toddler and infant diapers.
- A potty training toddler will be taken by their parents to use the restroom. At drop off, please make sure to have a clear plan for your child.
- No running in the hallways.
- When children are outside for recess all doors must be closed.
- The front entrance doors must be closed once the service has started, and the rear door to the playground must be closed at all times.
- Children must be picked up by an approved adult on the child’s Check-Out profile.
Child Health Policy
Children with the following symptoms will not be admitted to CLSO Children’s Ministry for the safety and well-being of the other children in attendance as well as our volunteers. There are no exceptions.
- White, green or yellow mucus
- Fever within the last 24 hours
- Pink eye
- Lice
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Continuous coughing
Child Ratio Policy
For the safety and well-being of the children in our care we adhere to a strict Child/Volunteer ratio policy.
- Nursery: 2:1 (Child/Volunteer)
- Toddler: 3:1 (Child/Volunteer)
- Preschool: 5:1 (Child/Volunteer)
- K-3rd: 8:1 (Child/Volunteer)
